Culture not as a goal, but as an instrument

The Uitpas is an initiative by the Flemish government to encourage young adults (18-23) to participate in cultural offerings. However, young people often feel alienated from the cultural offerings in their region. They don't feel it's made for them. Our solution shows that, by radically focusing on young people, they want to discover cultural offerings in their own way.

THE CHALLENGE

How can we redesign the Uitpas to make it less stigmatizing for young adults (18-23) and motivate them to participate in the cultural offerings in Flanders and Brussels?

FINDINGS

The insight

Young adults don't feel that the cultural offerings are made for them, they don't feel at home there. They are mainly concerned with their social environment and less with paintings. In addition, there is shame in using the Uitpas, which is associated with poverty.

Our solution

From poverty resource pass to cultural VIP pass. A member experience, where you always know what to do for you and where to meet friends.

THE OUTCOME

UitX

UiTx is the platform where young adults are radically central. Through partnerships with influencers, the UITxSelectors, young adults recognize themselves as the target group of the cultural offerings. They act as guides, taking you through and to the cultural offerings in their own way. For example, young adults know what to do and what cultural events they can join via social media. Through UitX, they receive a cultural offer that is tailored to them and the Uitpas is reintroduced as a cultural VIP pass for young adults. This gives them extras, such as discounts or an invitation to special events, such as openings and special theme nights.
