The Fair Practice Code should make the cultural sector safer, fairer and more inclusive. Everyone agrees on this, but in practice, these values prove difficult to convert into concrete actions. How could a clear action perspective of a policy proposal cause serious systemic change?
Although the Fair Practice Code is widely embraced in its ambition and goal to make the cultural sector a healthy, safe and less vulnerable work environment - the Code reaches its audience, but not its goals. Show vague. Not practical. Not concrete enough. How does a good resolution really become the starting point for lasting change?
Proposed change comes in small steps, must be tailored, and crystal clear about the usefulness, necessity and benefits for the person concerned.
The Fair Practice Lab is one of the three steps we are taking towards fundamental change in the cultural sector. It is a modular, scalable and shareable workshop that makes the objective of the Fair Practice Code relevant, applicable and measurable for all cultural institutions and the people who work there.
The Fair Practice Lab is a Do-It-Yourself Workshop that guides organizations in forming their unique vision of the Fair Practice Code. The lab is a fusion of behavioral design, service design and design thinking. These methods ensure participant involvement, from onboarding to the end result. Providing inspiring examples, the group process and the co-creation workshop result in a concrete, customized action plan, unique for each individual organization. As an impact partner, we remain involved in implementing the Fair Practice Code and are working on new tools to make the cultural sector a more safe, fair and inclusive work environment.
