A few years back we were approached by Kunsten ’92, an advocacy organization that represents the interests of the entire artistic, cultural, and heritage sector in the Netherlands. It serves over 400 members, which include institutions and individuals from various disciplines such as the arts, new media, design, museums, and monuments. The organization aims to improve the social and political climate for culture in the Netherlands by providing a unified voice for its members. One of Kunsten '92's most notable initiatives is the ‘Fair Practice Code,’ which promotes fair working conditions and remuneration within the cultural and creative sectors. This initiative helps ensure sustainable and equitable practices across the industry and serves as a moral compass for everyone who works in and with this sector. The five values of the code are: solidarity, diversity, trust, sustainability and transparency.
During our work for the Fair Practice Code we developed The Fair Practice Lab, a modular, scalable and shareable workshop that makes the objective of the Fair Practice Code relevant, applicable and measurable for all cultural institutions and the people who work there. This short documentary on the other hand became the visual testimony to show why it is so important for the Fair Practice Code to be adopted by all cultural institutions.
